Is Your Website Neurology Friendly?

Designing a website that is Neurology Friendly can be both fun and educational, as you try and experience how others would feel and react to the content on your website, thus enabling you to build a web site that has very broad appeal.

Our experience of the world is created by gathering information through the use of our five senses (sight, sound, touch, taste and smell). Each of us tends to develop a favourite mode of focus. Some people are more impacted, for example, by what they see; their visual system tends to be more dominant. For others, sounds are the trigger for their greatest life’s experiences, while for still others, feelings are the foundation.

Based on our past life experiences, we all use different parts of our nervous system when viewing situations in life, the three main ones being visual (sight), auditory (sound) and kinesthetic (touch). So whatever experiences we have stored in the mind are represented through these three major modalities. Sometimes one of these will produce a particular result or it could be a combination of all three. We also all learn and absorb information in different ways, some learn easier by seeing things, others by hearing things and others by feeling things or again a combination of two or three modes.

In designing a website would it not make sense to try and produce a web site that would have an even balance of content so as to appeal to the three major modalities? It would be crazy just to aim our site at a visual person as we would be excluding customers who fall into the auditory and kinesthetic modalities.

In my own personal experience, I know that a website that is comprised of mostly text does not motivate me enough to stay on the site and read pages and pages of text. I would far rather see some graphics and good pictures – that is because I am a “visual” person. But on the other hand a site that is full of clashing colours and bright flashing banners would quickly make me close the browser!

With wonderful technology today, one can easily cater for the auditory person by installing a video with sound onto your website. There are plenty of people who would rather hear things than read. They love talking websites. One does need to ensure that the recording of the voice is of good quality and the tone and speed of the narrator is such that it will not irritate the listener.

As for the kinesthetic person – as he cannot actually touch the web site, the design needs to be such that it presents a warm, friendly “feeling” that will motivate the kinesthetic person to read and may be listen to your site. Graphics and pictures would need to be really good, for example pictures of carpets need to portray what it would actually feel like to walk barefoot on them! A picture of an apple would need to stimulate the actual feeling of biting into a lovely juicy apple! A travel site would need to reveal pictures of holiday destinations that stimulated feelings within the kinesthetic viewer that reminded him of a previous wonderful experience.

So designing a website to cater for all three modalities could actually be a lot of fun as you try and put yourself in the shoes of each of the modes and try and experience what they would see, feel and hear so that you can then transfer those experiences into the design of your website. Of course, we cannot cater for all, but we can give it a good try!

Making your web site easy to navigate is really important as one can get easily frustrated when getting “lost” on a website. Provide a good roadmap!

Of course there is another really important visitor to your website who you have to cater for and that is the search engine robot!!!! But of course he is not concerned about aesthetics or feelings or listening to what the site has to say – but he likes a really good roadmap too! What the robot is looking for would require another article to be written.

Have fun creating a website that appeals to as many people as possible and you will surely see your stat counter soar!

Internet Marketing Training – My Personal Journey

A few months ago, if I had to put a banner on my site and was not given the full code I would have closed the site and looked for another site that gave the exact code so I could just copy and paste it into my site!! Now that I have joined a program with excellent training and have my own domain, it is no problem now for me to save the banner to my hard drive, upload it to my hosting control panel, create the code and add the banner to my site!!! This may sound so simple to some, but for newbies to the net, who are over 50 and were not brought up with a mouse in one hand and a cell phone in the other, this is quite an achievement.

I guess the message here today is that it is never too late to learn if the desire to succeed on the internet is there. I have learnt more in the last 3 months than I have in the 4 years that I have been working on the net. But it is important to find a program that will provide you with excellent training, ongoing support and a forum where you can ask anything without feeling ashamed and receive advice from the top gurus in internet marketing who are prepared to share their knowledge and expertise in order to help others succeed.

Within 3 months of starting the training I have optimized my site myself and am enjoying top positions on Google, Yahoo and MSN (and other search engines) with some of my keywords. I have learnt some basic html and manage to make changes to my site as and when I want to. This sometimes takes time, but I am learning daily as I go along and seeing the results of my efforts in increased hits to my site and sign-ups, resulting of course in me generating web income.

Targeted web site traffic is the lifeblood of any online business and I have really had my eyes opened to the methods used by the top gurus. When I look back on how I used to try and generate traffic to my site, I sigh and say “no wonder I couldn’t generate enough traffic and sign-ups!”

I have learnt the importance of one-way links, back-links, link exchanges and have a very user friendly linking program installed on my site. You soon see and feel the sudden upsurge of the traffic coming in to your site from other sites. A major prerequisite in exchanging links with other sites is having the same niche or content as the other site. They should share a common subject so that there is continuity in the providing of service and information to what interests your target traffic. Exchanging links also boosts your chances of getting a high ranking in search engine results.

I’ve learnt to write articles as well! This may seem daunting to some, as it did to me initially, but when you are learning so much, seeing the results of your own efforts and your confidence begins to built, it is not so hard to put pen to paper! There are many freelance writers who are willing to write for you for a small fee, but to save money, it is wise to do those articles yourself. Be sure to include a resource box at the end of your article that can link them to your site. Write a little about yourself and your site. If you provide a light, information-laden and interesting article, they will go to your site for more.

Another interesting thing that I have managed to do is add Syndicated Content to my website – this was quite a challenge as I had to learn the difference between .php and .html pages, but with persistence and patience I now have continually updated Syndicated Content on my site which the search engines love!

Visitors to my site can subscribe to my really interesting and informative Online Home Business and Website Marketing Secrets Newsletter with Income Generating tips and tricks. I also use a top Auto-responder to take care of the subscribers and to ensure they receive all copies of the Newsletter and should they wish to unsubscribe they can do so with one click. The auto-responder was even set up for me with preloaded messages!

I have to mention that I have also learnt to set up my Blog and edit it as I please.

I have barely touched on all that I have learnt in the last few months and it truly is an exciting journey at the moment, knowing that each day I will become more knowledgeable and tech-savvy. I hope that, by relating my internet marketing training journey so far, I have been able to pass on some tips and give hope to those just starting out on the internet.
