Think of an autoresponder as a tireless salesman ready to work and sell night and day without hassle, hence the reason it is the most important tool in your internet marketing business.

The majority of the people who visit your website will not buy from you on their first visit. In fact, most people do not buy a product on the Internet until they have seen it or heard about it at least 7 times. Think about this yourself. How many times did you hear about a product or service before you actually bought it? If it is any less than 7 times, you are a little unusual. Can you begin to imagine the impact on your business if you told just 10 people about it? What if you told 100 people or even 1000? Some of the best advertising in the world is free. It is called word of mouth.

Telephone: Some people are very comfortable talking and sharing information over the phone. As always, just be yourself. When people are interested in what you are doing, they will naturally find out about your business. If it is the right thing for them, they will join without any arm twisting or any other high pressure sales tactics.

Remember, the more people you contact, the faster your profits will grow! Keep in mind nothing is ever perfect. Do not sit around waiting until you have got the perfect message to send. With the ever increasing number of web sites on the internet, why not take advantage of this simple method of being able to personalize and distinguish your web site from others?

If you bookmark a page with Microsoft IE you will notice some sites have a special icon associated with their respective bookmark thus differentiating or branding site A from site B. Think of it as internet marketing.

It dawned on me recently how easy it was for me to locate web sites that I had bookmarked and appeared in My Favorites menu with a little icon displayed next to the web site name, so I decided to find out if I could put one on my own web site to make it stand out in the My Favorites menu and easier for whoever bookmarked my site to locate.

I started my search on Google and discovered that the little icon that replaces the IE logo (in IE) is called a Favicon (pronounced fav-eye-con) and is short for Favorites Icon or it is sometimes called a bookmark icon. The Favicon also shows in the address bar as well. Notice the red Y! symbol that appears in the left-most area of the address bar in Internet Explorer when you open Yahoo!, or the butterfly in MSN . What a great way to personalise your site.

You will require IE 5.0 or higher and a favicon.ico can show up in at least three different places in Windows:

1) In the Favorites list selectable on the Start menu;

2) In the location bar of the browser when you are visiting the web site;

3) On your desktop if you first bookmark the site, click Start, Favorites, hold down the control key and click on the bookmark to drag it to the desktop (it copies the icon as a shortcut).

The favicon.ico can also show up in the following two places:

4) On the taskbar if you bookmark the site, hold down the control key, then right click on the bookmark and drag it to the task bar, it copies the icon there;

5) On the links bar if you bookmark the site, hold down the control key, then right click on the bookmark and drag it to the Links tool bar, it copies the icon there.

If you search in the engines for favicon you will find that many sites come up offering favicon tutorials, online tools to create favicon icons, free favicon icons and installation instructions too.

A favicon should be 16 X 16 pixels with 16 colors and the file name must be favicon.ico and ideally you should search for a program that allows you to create favicons online. Remember, if you do not save it as favicon.ico it will not work. Do not make the mistake of just shrinking an image to icon size and renaming it with a .ico file extension. That will not work either because it is not a real icon file. Do not be surprised if your own favicon does not show up in your own browser when you open your site, as sometimes this can take up to a few days and even disappear again only to reappear.

I had fun creating my own personal 16 x 16 pixel image in MyImager and then found a site on Google that created a favicon.ico file and I uploaded my image and clicked on generate favicon and that is how easy it was. I then uploaded the favicon.ico file to the root web directory, in the same location as the index.html page of my hosted website and bingo, I now have a Favicon and have personalized and distinguished my web site from others. Creating such an icon adds to the professionalism of your site, marking you as a web designer who attends to detail.

So now when someone bookmarks my site with a browser that supports favicons, my favicon will appear, as opposed to a default image (a logo for Internet Explorer), which is used instead if no favicon.ico had been provided. I am sure if you look through your own Favorites Menu you will notice that the bulk of the images are the IE logo.

The favicon allows the webmaster to further promote their site, and to create a more customized appearance within a visitor's browser. Often, the favicon reflects the look and feel of the web site or the organization's logo. Have fun creating your Favicon.

Owning your own domain gives you so much more freedom on the internet and I would say it is an absolute necessity to ensure success, as it gives you the option to make changes to your site as and when you need to.

By having your own domain you are in control of your site and your business and you will be able to design or make changes to your site so that it stands out in the crowd, makes your site unique and allows you to do the most important task of optimizing your site for the search engines so that your site can appear high up in the search results. You will also be able to project your own personality into the site.

By optimizing your site for the search engines your site will receive targeted traffic which is exactly what is required to generate web income. This basically is also free traffic if you optimize your site yourself and is known as organic traffic. Taking Google as an example, if you do a search the sites that appear on the right hand side of the page are Adwords adverts which are paid adverts. The sites that appear in the main body of the page starting on the left are free and if you have your own domain you can optimize your site so that it appears on the first page of Google. It has also been proven that the first place your eyes look at on a web page is the top left hand part of the page, so ideally that is where you want to position your site in the search results.

With your own domain your advertising options will not be limited, as they are with affiliate urls, as some sites just do not accept them. Also imagine if you were one of a few thousand affiliates belonging to the same program, you would all have the same url. If you had your own domain you could still join a few affiliate programs and then advertise those programs on your own site. Amongst other things, you could create your own splash pages for different programs, add a fly-in, a pop-up, contextual adverts or Google Adsense – your options are not limited.

It makes linking so much easier too, as sometimes to get listed in a high ranked directory you will be asked to place a link-back on your home page, in the form of a text link or image. You could also add a reciprocal linking program to your site. You can so easily place advertising banners on your site, add articles or other items of interest to attract visitors to your site and have them stay on your site longer as well as increase your rankings in the search engines.

Free web tools are a great feature to offer on your site enabling the visitor to check their Link Popularity or Alexa Rating for example. It also enables you to add features to your site that encourage your visitors to return. Add a small piece of script enabling your visitors to bookmark your site. You can offer freebies such as e-books.

Then of course there is the option of adding video and RSS feeds to your site, linking it to your blog as well as all the other technical things available.

You would also be able to add your own email autoresponder campaign that automatically follows-up with your website visitors who subscribe to your Newsletter. So whenever you want to add new products, re-arrange your site layout, change the color scheme or anything you want, you can do it all instantly.

The list of what you could do by having your own domain is limitless, that is why I feel it gives you total freedom on the internet, increases your internet marketing options and generates more web income.

Once you have decided to quit your full time job and work at home it is important to plan your days so that you get into a routine as soon as possible, otherwise you could be easily distracted with your new found freedom.

Being the boss of your own home based business as opposed to having a job are really two extremes. When I decided to quit my 9 to 5 job and develop my web income generating business into a full time work at home business, I gave a lot of thought to what I would be giving up and what I would be gaining. This can be quite an eye opening exercise and the pros and cons will vary with each person.

There are the obvious things like giving up the security of a salary and the other benefits and perks one receives in a job, but after calculating carefully, you will know if you can afford to forfeit these. Be sure you have some money saved up and that you are earning enough from different streams of income. Do not rely on one stream of income just in case something goes wrong. If you really enjoy the interaction with work colleagues on a daily basis you may find working at home rather lonely. You may need to find ways of compensating for not having people around you by building into your daily schedule some time to see friends, or perhaps take up tennis or go to the gym with friends. If you long to be boss free then having your own business is the answer. Being able to reschedule your day, go shopping, go away for a few days, or for that matter do anything you want, without having to ask permission is total freedom.

To be successful with your own home based business requires discipline.

Generating income from the web takes time, persistence, dedication and discipline. I started working on the internet when I still worked 9 to 5 in my day job. This meant early to rise and late to bed. I used to rise early so that I could spend 2 hours on my internet business prior to leaving for work. Once I got home in the evenings it was back to my internet business for at least 4 to 5 hours. This will sound familiar to those who are also striving to build an internet business that will enable them to quit their day jobs.

Having worked like this for a couple of years I was very disciplined, but I knew I had to maintain or even increase that discipline once I quit my job and started working full time at home, in order to maintain the momentum that I had built up with my online business. When I made the transition, I decided I did not have to get up so early but I still set my alarm clock for 6am to maintain the discipline. I now have more hours in the day to attend to my internet business and therefore do not need to deprive myself of sleep.

It is important to get some exercise as one can become glued to the computer screen for hours when involved in something that requires a lot of concentration, like designing a web site for example. My daily plan ensures that I take my dog, Zoe, for a walk twice a day, mid morning and evening. It keeps her happy and gives me exercise as well as the well needed break from sitting in front of the computer. Remember your eyes need a break too.

There are outside influences one needs to take care of as well, such as letting your friends know that working at home does not mean that they can call on you any time of the day and sit for a couple of hours chatting over coffee. I found that if you do allow this to happen it breaks the working routine and very little gets done!

One of my hobbies is gardening and I have had to set aside specific times for this otherwise I would be wondering outside into the garden every hour or so and find myself getting totally sidetracked.

It does take a couple of weeks to settle down into a new routine, but they say it only takes 21 days to form a new habit. It is great not having to commute to the office and answer to a boss. I can now spend my days doing what I love doing, and that is working for myself from home.

There are numerous forums on the internet and it is important to spend time searching for the more highly respected ones, which are well managed with good moderators who maintain the standard of the forum by strictly enforcing the rules.

As you start participating regularly in the forum, you will find yourself learning faster and earning more...guaranteed. Top forums are the stomping ground for the best Internet marketers on the planet as well as the training ground for thousands of up and coming Internet marketers. You can increase your presence on the internet very quickly by actively participating in a few forums and constructively posting 3 – 5 times a day in each forum. Spend time in the forums every day just browsing, reading through topics and responding to posts as desired.

Some forums have categories where you can submit your articles, do not ignore this if you have articles to submit because other members may select them to send to their lists. Also fellow members could be e-zine owners and they might just pick your article up for their newsletter. You may also find a category dedicated to discussion on all topics related to self-improvement. This most certainly fits into a money-making forum because power, energy and creativity translates into being able to make more money.

You may also find categories dedicated to joint ventures, free e-books, reciprocal links, special offers as well as off-topic forums where you can discuss anything.

The more you get involved, the more you will learn and the more you learn and apply, the more you will earn!
