In this article I am going to give you some tips to increase your blogging income but first let’s have a look at why more and more people are using blogs today.

A blog is a web page where you can log in regularly and post text or graphics content. Some blogs you can have for free while others you would have to pay for. There are sites such as Blogger, WordPress and MyBlogSite that offer free blog space, making blogs the most convenient way to own a personal site online.

A blog can be personal, professional or business. Most personal blogs are purely personal journals of their owner. Professional blogs or Pro blogs are created to earn income by posting ads and writing articles to promote certain products or services for a fee. Business blogs are created for blogging income by promoting the products or services sold by the blog owner.

It is far more convenient to use a blog than a regular website. Apart from its cost efficiency it is also easier to manage. It is easy to make all its content appear in the main page as opposed to websites where you may have to deal with different pages. Blog posts can contain texts, graphics, photos and videos. The entries appear chronologically, usually with the latest occupying the top most area. A huge advantage is that blogs can be easily updated.

Other than content, the following are some of the blog features that you must be familiar with to increase your blogging income:

Blog Archives

A collection of old posts which are usually grouped by week or month are called a “blog archives”. Usually the archive is located in the blog’s sidebar or near the header, which will facilitate easy access to old posts.

Blog Categories

All related blog entries can be grouped into categories such as products, promotions, services and others. This will facilitate easy access for visitors to those entries that catch their interest. When you create a new post you will select the category the post is to be grouped into.

Blogroll

The Blogroll contains a list of blogs that you like or follow and is located in your blog’s sidebar or below for easy access. If you own other blogs you can include them in your blogroll so that your blog viewers can link to them easily. For example, if your business is flower arrangements and you are also selling gardening supplies you can place a link to your gardening supplies blog in the blogroll of your flower arrangement page. Blogrolls are great traffic generators and if you are included in the blogroll of other sites and blogs, your site will get greater exposure. Blog visitors can easily click on your link and arrive on your site. Also if your blog has many incoming links from other high quality blogs it will rank higher in search engines.

Blog Comments

The section for comments is another feature that you can include in your blog enabling your blog visitors to easily leave comments on every article you post and you can then respond accordingly. By diligently posting interesting entries, responding to all comments and regularly visiting other related blogs and correspondingly leave comments you can eventually form a blog-based community. This can certainly increase traffic to your blog.

Therefore, the purpose of all the above blog features is to facilitate easy browsing of your blog as well as to boost traffic. This in turn will increase the exposure of your products and services which can be converted into sales. In other words, all these will increase your blogging income.
